Everybody has that one piece of apparel they can’t live without. The LBD that works for every occasion. The perfectly broken-in pair of jeans you practically live in. Your favorite pair of heels that you can wear all day long — pain-free. But when you think about your most indispensable pieces, where do glasses fall on your list?
If you’re nearsighted or farsighted, you literally need your glasses. But aside from strict necessity, sometimes nothing can finish off an outfit like the perfect pair of specs. These versatile little items can have personalities all their own. Tortoiseshell or horn-rimmed, gaudy or minimalist, your glasses say a lot about you, whether you want them to or not.
It so happens that eyewear is undergoing a revolution right now. You don’t need 20/20 vision to see that there are fewer of the thick, dark-rimmed variety that have reigned for a long time now. The fashion set is now transitioning toward wire-rimmed glasses. Lightweight and barely-there, wire rims are basically the complete opposite of what’s been trending. Their subtle nod to the 90s (the last time wire rims were really trending) doesn’t hurt their appeal, either.
So whether you’ve poked the lenses out and are wearing glasses just for fun or because you’re blind without them, now’s the time to go down to the wire with your eyewear. For a little inspiration, here are the freshest looks from street style stars who’ve already made the transition to a trusty pair of wire rims. So, when’s your next eye appointment?
