Skin was definitely in down in Miami. While
one-pieces were trending , they were of the sexier variety (think those high-cut red
Baywatch suits, but skimpier). Designers also got a bit cheeky by giving us plenty of thongs to choose from, so get ready for some unique tan lines. For those on the more conservative side, there was no shortage of cover-ups on display. The only downside? A lot of them were downright crazy, like see-through pants, collared capes and even a bikini layered over another bikini. Here are the eight top swimwear trends from Miami Swim Week 2018 that are guaranteed to make a splash at the pool or on the beach next year.

Tassels
This is one trend that managed to stay afloat from last season , with virtually every designer including some form of tassel accent for 2018. Some even upped the ante by working in tassel earrings and body jewelry.

Landlocked
Just like the RTW and haute couture runways, not every look at Miami Swim Week is meant to be taken literally. There were an uncanny number of pieces that were definitely not waterproof. Embellishments don’t exactly hold up underwater and ruffled sleeves would just bog you down while swimming. And teddy bears belong at a picnic, not the pool.

Suspenders and Harnesses
Apparently, swimwear falls down a lot because designers felt the need to prop up their pieces with suspenders and harnesses. Whether really connected to bikini bottoms or just mock to mimic the look of suspenders, we’re predicting a lot of straps slipping off shoulders.

Crazy Cover-Ups
We're all for unconventional ways to cover up swimsuits and bikinis , but these cover-ups may have taken things too far. We may rock a superhero-style cape from time to time (or on the red carpet), but we’ll probably never sport plastic pants.

String Bikinis
This season’s string bikinis are still fit to be tied, but include extra strings in the form of lace-up tops and asymmetrical accents on the bottoms. These swimsuits aren’t really designed for tanning addicts or for anyone who appreciates fuss-free beachwear. (Anything that can be tied can also come untied.)

Stripes
Perhaps taking a cue from the Resort 2018 collections , stripes were all over the Miami Swim Week runways. Both one-pieces and two-pieces got in on the action, some boasting head-to-toe stripes, while a few confined them to just the tops or bottoms.

Sexy One-Pieces
These are not your typical one-pieces. Get ready to show a whole lot of leg, cleavage, sideboob and underboob. Cut-outs and plunging necklines also helped amp up the sex appeal.

Thongs
With Sisqó just releasing a revamped version of his classic "Thong Song" this summer, it’s probably apropos that thongs made a comeback this season. Already favored by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid , thongs popped up behind all manner of swimsuit.
