We’re living in a plaid, plaid world this season. Animal prints, camo and snakeskin may all be having a moment, but it’s plaid that appears to be the victor of the battle of patterns for Fall 2018. The checked design is appearing in all forms, from vivid Cher Horowitz-inspired plaids to clashing patterns. Plus, the print has even migrated to accessories. And plaid pants have become the key item to update our wardrobes for the new season.
When something causes people to put down their permanently-on-rotation jeans, we listen. The plaid pant trend started with the Fall 2018 runways featuring plaid bottoms of all styles, from slim trousers to joggers. And the Spring 2019 shows continued the look. Furthermore, the fashion set gamely adopted plaid trousers. We saw numerous iterations of plaid pants being worn, from traditional plaid suits to a street style mash-ups involving clashing prints and textures. Some kept things classic by coordinating their top with a color in their plaid trousers.
Take a cue and select plaid bottoms that suit your aesthetic, be it edgy, classic or a retro-sportswear-meets-girly vibe. If you choose a check or tartan instead of a “proper” plaid, it won’t make a difference. As long as your trousers have the signature squares, lines and different colors, you’ve checked (sorry) the trend.
Here are 18 pairs of plaid pants that will make you mad for plaid, if you aren’t already.
