It’s the tail end of winter and while we patiently await spring’s arrival, we’re in desperate need of a little late season outfit inspo. Rather than look to the Fall 2019 collections, we’re turning to the streets. That’s because street style stars are pros at taking top trends and making them work IRL.
From redefining head-to-toe neutrals to puffer alternatives and cinching basically everything, these asphalt influencers are serving up style to spare. And great news: You don’t have to go on a shopping spree to follow their lead. Because we’re guessing you already own plaid pieces, white button-downs and turtlenecks.
Ahead, eight street style trends that proved popular outside the Fall 2019 shows from the Big Apple to the City of Light.

Quilted Coats Are the New Puffers
While those larger-than-life puffers still popped up, quilted coats gained major traction. From super long to cropped or just paneled, the coats provided that much-needed hint of texture. (FYI: We even noticed a few pairs of quilted shorts.)

Blink-and-You-Miss-Them Bags
Micro bags have been trending for a while, but this season the bags were so tiny, we can’t even imagine what you could actually carry in them. We saw teeny-tiny belt bags, minuscule top-handle bags and even a bag with a mini bag charm.

Break Out the Belts
The biggest accessory of the Fall 2019 season? Statement belts. They were both wide and skinny, but the buckles were the real stars. They were outsize or boasted unique shapes. Wear them over blazers, button-downs, sweaters and coats, just not all at once.

The New Neutral
Leave it to the street style crowd to show us the fashion way to keep it in neutral. The keys? Work with texture and layer different neutrals (like brown, tan, white and gray) for a cohesive finish. Also opt for neutral accessories.

Fierce Animal Prints
Things got pretty wild with all manner of animal prints on full display. We spotted leopard, zebra and snakeskin patterns. Some went with just a pop of print, others opted to combine different animals for a more eclectic look.

Colorful Fur Coats
Street stylists kept warm between shows decked out in you-can’t-miss-me fur coats. We’re talking rich reds, bold blues, bright yellows and multicolored versions. If you’re down to try this trend, we recommend going the faux fur route.

Basic Turtlenecks as Base Layers
By now it’s no secret that turtlenecks are fashion girls' BFFs this time of year. But instead of making a statement, the street style set relied on the must-have items as base layers to build their outfits on. Turtlenecks were usually black, white, gray or burgundy and were layered under puff-sleeve blouses, suits, sweaters and wrap dresses.

Still Mad for Plaid
Plaid has apparently got some real staying power since all manner of checks were well represented. There were more traditional iterations, like the always-in-style Burberry check pattern, and brighter versions perfect for your redux grunge wardrobe.
