After weeks of drama (Burberry’s noose as drawstring misstep), sadness (RIP Karl Lagerfeld ) and plenty of oohing and aahing, fashion month has finally shut up shop. And while we’re always sad to see it all come to an end, we have a fresh batch of trends to satiate our sartorial hunger until Spring 2020 rolls around. (Well, a couple of this season’s trends are runway holdovers.)
Love Fair Isle sweaters? This fall, it’s time to trade up to not-so-classic argyle patterns. When it comes to outerwear, you have your pick of flamboyant capes, quilted jackets or brown leather coats. The one essential for fall? A pair of surprisingly wearable opera gloves.
For more on the must-haves, check out the slideshow above to see which Fall 2019 runway trends everyone will be rocking once the leaves fall.

Fall 2019 Trends
Argyle 2.0
Once reserved for the preppy set, argyle sweaters were a pretty safe bet if you wanted to look clean cut. Cut to Fall 2019 and the preppy pattern is reborn as fashun with colorful diamond-accented pieces fit for the front row or a grunge-based closet.

Cape Town
Designers were cape crusaders, pushing everything from the flowy variety to super structured incarnations. Need one for a night out? Balmain has you covered. Want to fake that French girl insouciance? Celine’s collared take will help you blend in. No matter the weather or occasion, there’s a cape to covet.

Patchwork Patterns
If you’re a fan of your grandma’s quilt, you’ll love the patchwork craze. The multipatterned patterns popped up in coat, dress and even shiny jumpsuit form. We’re expecting it to cross over and impact the prairie dress trend since that’s still a thing.

Opera Gloves for Day and Night
Traditionally reserved for an actual night at the opera, brands are trying to push opera gloves as the new go-to hand warmers 24/7. Some were slightly slouchy, a few were patterned and a couple really meant business. They’re being groomed as the must-have accessory of the season.

Quilted...Everything
The street style set is already all about quilted coats. But for Fall 2019, the padding has expanded to cover skirts, tops, shorts, pants and even ballgowns. While there’s no guaranteeing these other forms will keep you warm, at least the texture boost will get people talking.

Split Personality
Can’t make up your mind? Well, now you don’t have to. Designers quite literally split the difference between colors, patterns or prints. It’s the best of both worlds.

Perked-Up Plaid
The Fall 2019 collections proved plaid still has legs. But we’re not talking classic tartan. The patterns ranged from multicolored to harness-accented. Prefer your plaid with a healthy dose of punk? Check. A 60s spin? Check. Basically, get ready for peak plaid.

All Species of Animal Prints
Animal prints will still be on the prowl come fall. But it’ll be an interspecies pack as everything from leopard to snake to zebra proved popular. Some designers went with just a spot, while others went wild from head to toe.
