With a shorter schedule, we weren’t sure if any real New York Fashion Week Spring 2021 trends would emerge. But we were pleasantly surprised to see a few common threads. Another shock? Most of them are ones we’ve all seen before.
Four main trends appeared across the Spring 2021 runway shows, lookbooks and videos. Much to Miranda Priestly’s dismay, florals were a seasonal favorite. We also spotted stripes galore. This time around said stripes were mainly vertical. Laser-cut patterns also proved popular. Not to mention strategically-placed cut-outs. Think of it as extra ventilation.
Check out the slideshow above to see how designers put their own spin on the top New York Fashion Week Spring 2021 trends.

Fresh Florals
Florals may not exactly be groundbreaking for spring, but they feel fresher this season. Maybe it’s because designers used them in new and unusual ways. Like pairing them with animal prints a la Tom Ford or crochet like Ulla Johnson.

Major Laser
Laser-cut patterns popped up practically everywhere. Jason Wu added them to tops, while Zimmermann flaunted its creation on a maxi skirt. But it was the intricate design on the sleeves of Self-Portrait’s crisp romper that proved to be the most mesmerizing.

Stand-Up Stripes
Stripes for spring isn’t a revolutionary concept. But for Spring 2021 it was the vertical versions that dominated. Adeam offered colorful strips, Jason Wu favored laid-back lines and Thakoon went with the best of both worlds by mixing thick and thin bands.

Taking a cue from the ever-popular mani trend, cut-outs of all shapes and sizes gave clothes a little breathing room. Adeam simply slashed sleeves and Tibi played peekaboo with a blink-and-you-miss-it side opening. Meanwhile, Khaite, Sandy Liang and Simon Miller took more eye-catching routes.
