Stirrup tights are traditionally associated with dancers who use them when dancing barefoot as the opening to the heel allows the tights to stay in place during movement. Recently, however, they have started to go mainstream because they help lengthen the leg line. This has, in turn, made yet another sportswear classic into a stylish trend.
That said, unlike many other trends stirrup leggings are easy to pull-off and have a “new classic” feel that will likely transcend many seasons to come. They can easily be swapped for your run-of-the-mill black leggings if you opt for solid colored ones. Brands like Alo, however, are taking fashion-forward approaches for those looking to push the envelope a bit.
Click through our slideshow below for a look at some stirrup leggings to wear this season and beyond – whether you want to be bold or play it safe.

Polo Ralph Lauren
Stirrup leggings don't just make us think of dancers, they also bring up an equestrian theme, which is why Polo Ralph Lauren can be counted on to offer a take. These aren't workout leggings, that's for sure! They're a medium weight, offer less stretch than most, have a pin tuck feature for a classic element and a hidden side zipper, all of which make these a great option to be paired with a white top, blazer and flats for a comfortable day-to-night look.
